VISION STATEMENT

We, at St Agnes Primary School, are committed to develop the potential of every learner in a Catholic environment so that they can make a meaningful contribution to this community in the spirit of UBUNTU.

Dear Parents / Guardians

LEARNING SUPPORT TEACHER:

We extend a warm welcome to our LST, Ms Mobara, who has been appointed by MCED and who will be at our school on Mondays, Tuesdays and every second Friday. We hope your stay with us will be pleasant and rewarding.

GRADE 3 AND 6 SYSTEMIC TESTS:

In support of the WCED’s continued commitment to good teaching and learning, it has commissioned research to investigate the Literacy and Numeracy levels of all Grade 3 and 6 pupils. Testing at our school will take place on Tuesday 28 October. The intention of this Grade 3 and 6 assessments is to measure the performance and to track the progress made by pupils in Literacy and Numeracy. If your child is in Grade 3 or 6, please encourage him/her to revise all work completed in English and Mathematics daily.

BUDGET MEETING:

A meeting to approve the Budget for 2015 will be held in the school hall on Tuesday 4 November 2014 at 19:00. The proposed budget and fee structure for 2015 will be presented. The Budget will be available for inspection at school 14 days prior to the meeting. A resolution will be proposed at the meeting, to be approved by the majority of the parents present and voting, to approve the Budget and the proposed school fees and this decision will be binding on all parents/guardians. This is an invitation to all parents/guardians to diarise this important date and to make every effort to attend this important meeting.

FOOD FAIR:

The Food Fair organised by the teachers with the assistance of the parent class representatives will be held on SATURDAY 1 NOVEMBER commencing at 09:00. Please assist us in making this a success by forwarding your donations per grade to the class teachers by WEDNESDAY 29 October. Stalls will be selling various foods and there will be a potjiekos competition. Anyone is welcome to participate with the proviso that all food is halaal and entrants are responsible for their own fires, ingredients, etc. Please forward your name and type of potjie you intend making to the secretary by WEDNESDAY 29 OCTOBER.

FEE EXEMPTION / PARTIAL EXEMPTION APPLICATION FORM – 2015:

These forms are available from the bursar, Mrs Lombard, for parents who may have a problem paying school fees due to unemployment, disability, retrenchment, etc. THIS IS NOT APPLICABLE FOR THE PRE – PRIMARY, GRADE R, AFTERCARE, RESOURCE LEVY AND OUTSTANDING FEES. The form must be completed every year even though you may have completed one the previous year. Completed forms for 2015 including all the relevant documentation and information must be submitted to the bursar by FRIDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2014, OR AS SOON AS YOU HAVE COMPLETED IT. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

SCHOOL’S DRAW STRING BAGS:

These are currently on sale at R30 each and is ideal for carrying the pupil’s Phys Ed clothing and takkies. Pupils must be dressed in the correct school uniform when they come to school and go home in the afternoons on their Phys Ed days i.e. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please write your child’s name on the bag when you purchase it from Mrs Lombard.

LOST / DEFACED TEXTBOOKS:

A substantial amount of money was spent on purchasing textbooks in each subject for every child. Parents/Guardians will be held liable for the full cost of purchasing any textbook that has been lost/defaced by their child. Please encourage your child to take responsibility for looking after their textbooks.

GRADES 4 – 7 NOVEMBER EXAMINATION TIMETABLE:

Please find a copy of the Grades 4 – 7 November examination timetable. Please ensure that your child completes homework, tasks, projects and assignments and hands these in by the due date as requested by the teachers. Daily revision is also essential in preparation for the examination. Diaries / Homework books need to be checked and monitored daily by parents/guardians.

CLASS MASS:

The Grade 5 (F) class will be celebrating this Mass on Friday 31 October at 10:00 in the prayer room at school.

Dear Parents / Guardians

CONDOLENCES:

We extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs I. Solomons, one of the non – teaching staff members of our school, and her family, on the passing of her husband. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. “Be still and know that I am God.” Ps 46:10.

EARLY DISMISSAL:

All pupils from Grades R – 7 will be dismissed at 13:00 from Monday 22 September to Thursday 2 October. Normal dismissal at 12:30 for Pre – Grade R. Dismissal for all pupils on Friday 3 October will be at 11:00. Please make the necessary arrangements to collect your child at this time. Aftercare will operate as normal.

HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS (HPV) VACCINATION:

The Department of Health, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education will be administering the second dose of the HPV vaccination on Tuesday 14 October to all the Grade 4 girls who received the first dose on 18 March. A few Grade 4 girls did not have consent for Round 1 either because they were absent, not of age or had no consent. These girls’ parents/guardians must complete the consent forms and return it to school by Tuesday 14 October, irrespective of whether parents/guardians have given consent or not.

KARAOKE / JAZZ EVENING:

The Fundraising Committee and staff will be hosting a Karaoke / Jazz evening in the Church hall tonight ,Friday 26 September at 20:00. Tickets, at R30,00 a head, will be on sale at school from 1 September. Please bring your own platter, XYZ and drinking glasses and diarise this date as we need your support to make the occasion a success. We do require small donations which will be used as prizes at this function. Please drop off any prizes with Mrs Lombard. Boerewors rolls with a cup of cooldrink will be on sale at a cost of R15,00.

PARENT / TEACHER MEETING AND REPORT COLLECTION:

Parent interviews and handing out of reports from Grades R – 7 to parents/guardians will take place in the school hall on Thursday 2 October from 13:15 – 18:30. NO REPORTS WILL BE HANDED TO PUPILS OR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS EXCEPT TO THE PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF THE PUPIL. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE PRESENT AND KINDLY KEEP TO YOUR 10 MINUTE TIME SO THAT ALL PARENTS/GUARDIANS CAN BE SEEN AT THE ALLOCATED TIME. The attached interview form should have been returned by today, Friday 26 September.

They will change into their Phys Ed uniform at school and change back into their school uniform when they have completed their Phys Ed session, NO pupil will be allowed to go home in the afternoons dressed in their Phys Ed uniform.

SCHOOL FEES AND THE RESOURCE LEVY ARE NOW DUE. FEES MUST BE PAID DIRECTLY TO MRS LOMBARD WHO IS AVAILABLE FROM 07:30 – 12:30 DAILY. THANK YOU TO THOSE PARENTS/GUARDIANS WHO HAVE SETTLED THEIR FEES. PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF PUPILS IN THE PRE-PRIMARY AND AFTERCARE CLASSES WHO HAVE FEES OUTSTANDING WILL BE ASKED TO REMOVE THEIR CHILDREN FROM THESE FACILITIES AS IT WAS EXPLAINED AT THE INTERVIEWS THAT FEES ARE DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH MONTH. THESE PARENTS/GUARDIANS HAVE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY REGARDING PAYMENT OF FEES AS THE PRINCIPLE OF ‘NO PAY, NO STAY’ WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

FREE CIVVY DAY:

All pupils will be allowed to dress in civvies on Friday 3 October at no cost.
