Dear Parents/Guardians

GOVERNING BODY ELECTIONS:

Governing Body elections will be held on Tuesday 10 March at 19:00 in the school hall. These elections are the third largest in the country after the National and Provincial ones. We encourage parents/guardians to avail themselves to serve on this committee as this will be an opportunity for those elected to represent the parent component of the school. We have invited an inspirational speaker to address the parents. As an incentive to parents/guardians to attend the meeting, Lewis Stores will be donating kitchen appliances that will be won by you in a few lucky draws. The class with the most parents/guardians present percentage wise will also receive an incentive of a free civvy and movie day. Please remember to bring along your valid ID document to enable you to sign the voters’ roll.

SURF WALK:

Our annual Surf Walk will be held on Wednesday 25 March. This is a normal school day and all pupils from Grades 1 – 7 are expected to be present. THE PRE – PRIMARY CLASSES WILL NOT BE ACCOMPANYING US FOR SAFETY REASONS, BUT WILL BE HAVING THEIR WALK AT SCHOOL. PARENTS/GUARDIANS CONCERNS:

Please follow the correct protocol/procedure if you have a concern by informing the class teacher who will schedule a meeting before/after school at a time convenient to all parties to address your concern. Thereafter, if you feel that your concern has not been addressed to your satisfaction, a meeting with one of the HOD’s, Mrs Londt or Ms Kolbe can be arranged before/after school. Only if it has still not been addressed to your satisfaction will you make an appointment with the secretary to meet with the principal.

PARENTS /GUARDIANS WAITING UNDER THE SHELTER / AT THE SCHOOL’S ENTRANCE:

It has been brought to my attention that certain parents/guardians waiting under the shelter/at the gate for their children are gossiping and passing negative comments about the school and its personnel. If you have LEGITIMATE concerns you should bring it to the staff’s attention via the correct procedure so that it can be addressed.

OUTREACH PROGRAMME:

Food parcels will be made up and distributed to needy families in the St Agnes school community. If you are able to, please forward any non – perishable groceries to school until the end of Lent. TEST WEEK GRADE 4-7:

With the implementation of CAPS in Grades 4-7 there will not be a formal test week set aside this term as in the past, but the teachers will be assessing pupils by conducting class tests and getting them to complete assignments/projects. This is why Parents/Guardians need to check their children’s diaries/homework books daily and monitor that the work has been completed by signing and dating the books.

CLASS MASS:

The Grade 6(K) class will be celebrating this Mass on Friday 13 March at 10:00 in the Prayer Room at school.

CAKE SALE:

The Grade 3 class will be having a cake sale on Friday 13 March. Please support them to make this venture a success.

GOVERNING BODY MEETING:

The current Governing Body, whose term expires in March, will be getting together for their last meeting on Tuesday 3 March at 18:00 in the staffroom. All members are encouraged to diarise this date and to be present.

LABELLING OF CLOTHING:

Parents/Guardians are requested to write their child’s name on all items of clothing so that we can return it to its rightful owner if it is misplaced by reading the name on the label of the clothing.

THEFT:

We are extremely concerned about the increase in the incidences of theft. This includes theft of clothing and the removal of labels with the correct owners’ name on it. Please check your children’s belongings, and if they come home with something that does not belong to them, return it to school.

AFTERCARE:

All children who make use of this facility MUST be collected by 17:30 for the latest if their parents/guardians have paid for them to be there until then. PLEASE DO NOT ABUSE THIS PRIVILEGE AS YOU WILL BE REQUESTED TO REMOVE YOUR CHILD FROM THIS FACILITY IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS.
